What is SE Society?

Software Engineering Society (SE Soc) is an elected council that runs community initiatives within the SE program. We run both social and career initiatives for SE students to make friends in our program, with cohort and program-wide events such as game nights, talent shows, and speed friending! We also run resume critiques and mentorship programs with upper years to help you on your career journey. Check out our past events here →

Who is SE Soc today?

How can I get involved with SE Soc?

🙋‍♀️ Class representatives

At the beginning of every term, all on-campus SE cohorts will run class representative elections (usually on Piazza). If elected, you’ll attend SE Soc meetings to get involved with our projects and help run events of your choice!

🎩 SE Soc executives

SE Soc executives are elected every four terms (aka two on-campus terms). Anyone in SE can run! For more details on executive responsibilities, see Executive Onboarding.

👨‍🎓 SE students

Even if you’re not elected as part of the SE Soc council, you can still run events and intiatives with SE Soc support! Just get in touch on the SE Discord or email us at [email protected] and we can figure out how to best support you.

What is A-soc/What is B-soc?

Cohorts and students who graduate in an even year are in A-Soc, while odd years are in B-Soc. The exception is for the 1A term, where cohorts are in the opposite society, and for anyone who switches to stream 8X or 8Y.

We’re working on phasing out these terms because they’re confusing — feedback is always welcome on our SE Discord or email!
