Title: Announcing the new SE Discord Server!

Hey everyone!

We're excited to announce the new UW Software Engineering Society Discord server! Before you close this announcement thinking "Not another Discord server", we'd like to mention that this server will be the new home for everything SE related. We'll be slowly retiring all other servers in favour of the new server.

There's lots you can do on the new server:

• Meet and hang out with current SE students and Alumni from every cohort.
• Catch up on the latest news from SE Soc like updates on upcoming events and initiatives
• Start an SE Soc Club! Want to start a reading group? A D&D campaign? League of Legends or Chess tournament? Join the Minecraft server? Anything is possible and the sky's the limit so get creative because we'd love to help you get the resources you need!
• Participate in contests (art and puzzles) and show off your skills! Kick back and relax during one of our Games or Movie Nights.
• Voice your opinions we're always looking for ways to improve our programming, so we want to know what you think. We'll be posting all our polls and exit surveys in the #announcements channel so stay tuned!

I thought we already had a Discord server, why another?

In the past, we've attempted to maintain servers to varying degrees of success. We've learned a lot from our successes and mistakes. We believe we're ready to deliver you a uniquely SE experience this time around that keeps all the things you loved about Games Night and Resume Critiques but hopefully brings you tons of new and exciting opportunities to interact with your peers!

So what makes this server different from others that we've run before? Well for starters, we've received approval for a level 3 server boost! That just means that we'll be able to deliver you the best possible quality video and audio as well as quality of life features to improve your experience here.

Second, we've designed an automated Auth system so you can feel comfortable and safe during your time here! Once verified, you'll be able to connect with students from other cohorts and alumni indicated by their automagically assigned roles.

The pandemic has forced a lot of us to rethink how we approach social interaction. Now more than ever, it's important to try and stay connected. Otherwise, we might miss out on opportunities to build those crucial University relationships. Hopefully, for some of you, this server can be a hub for the interactions that we're in such desperate need of during these tough times.
